Install

Three clicks, even if Windows warns you

The first time, Windows may show the blue “Windows protected your PC” warning. That’s normal for a new installer that isn’t signed yet.

  1. Open the installer

    The GM-CTRL-MASTER-Setup file you’ve just downloaded.

  2. Click “More info”

    If the blue warning appears, it’s the small link under the text.

  3. “Run anyway”

    Check that it says GM-CTRL-MASTER, then follow the setup wizard, keeping the default options.

Why does Windows warn you?

SmartScreen flags programs that don’t have a download reputation yet. Every new program from a small publisher starts out this way.

How do I know it’s the real one?

Only download it from gmctrl.com, with your account. If another website offers MASTER, don’t trust it and let us know at bugs@gmctrl.com.

Will the warning go away?

Yes. We’re working on code signing; once the installers are signed, Windows will stop warning you.

Computer
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. There’s no Mac or Linux version for now.
Local network
For the room displays and the blocks.
Internet
To update the app, connect to BOOKING and renew the block licences. The game itself doesn’t need it.
Account
A free GM-CTRL account.

After installing

First steps

  1. Create your room and your game

    Timer, clues and the room display. It works without any hardware.

  2. Connect BOOKING, if you use it

    With a pairing code, the day’s bookings show up in MASTER.

  3. Link the app to your account

    When you use blocks, generate a code in “Link a device” and paste it on the Account page of MASTER. That’s what activates your blocks’ licences.

Before you download

Is it really free?

Yes. The app is complete and free. The only thing you’ll pay for is the licences for the hardware blocks, from the second one on, once BLOCKS arrives.

Why do you ask for an account?

So that the download is always the official installer, and to link the app to your escape room when you use blocks. We don’t ask for a card.

Is there a Mac or Linux version?

Not for now: MASTER runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

How does it update?

The app looks for new versions by itself. What’s new tells you what changes in each one.

How often do new versions come out?

Often, and your opinion counts: if something doesn’t work or something’s missing, write to us.
